If you've ever wanted to play on clay without flying to Europe, there's good news: Gauteng's only clay court is right here in Johannesburg, at NextPoint Tennis in Houghton. This guide walks you through booking it and getting the most out of the surface.
Why play on clay?
Clay is a different game. The ball sits up, rallies last longer, and you're rewarded for movement, patience and shot construction rather than raw power. It's the surface that builds complete players — which is exactly why so many top juniors train on it.
- Slower, higher bounce — more time to set up your shots.
- Sliding — learn to move into the ball instead of stopping dead.
- Kinder on the body — softer underfoot than hard court.
How to book the clay court
Booking is quick and you don't have to be a member to play:
1. Open the booking page and choose Book a court. 2. Select the Clay Court (it's listed separately from the 7 hard courts). 3. Pick your time from the live availability and confirm. 4. Pay online, at the court, or on your monthly account.
Because there's only one clay court in the whole of Gauteng, the popular evening and weekend slots go fast — book ahead.
Member, visitor or guest?
| You are a… | What you pay |
|---|---|
| Member | Court bookings included in your R220/month membership |
| Visitor | A per-booking rate, no membership needed |
| Member's guest | A discounted guest rate when a member hosts you |
The clay court carries a small premium over the hard courts — it's a scarce, specialist surface — but it's still one of the best-value clay sessions you'll find anywhere.
